Failure to back up your data is an act of negligence.
Data back up is the copying of data to external media such as
a tape drive, another computer on your network, etc.
After you have backed up your data always test the backup for
problems or errors.

Prepare a written disaster plan and procedure for recovery,
adhere to the plan.

Design your systems to incorporate centralized data backup.

Rotate your back up data copy off-site.

Ensure that archive media is handled and stored properly.

Refresh your tapes at least every 4-5 years.

Verify your archive data on a regular basis

Retain (if applicable) archive data for the legal required
periods.
